What are the health benefits of increased phytochemicals / plant nutrients (greens) in the diet?

Studies suggest that increasing your daily intake of green leafy vegetables could significantly reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. However, further research is needed to determine how the diet affects development of the disease.

How is Fruits & Greens® made?

The fruits and vegetables in the US-made Fruits & Greens® family of formulas are whole fruit and vegetable powders, which are freeze-dried to remove the water before powdering them. Over 95% of the ingredients in our product are certified organic. Our ingredients are also non-GMO (genetically modified organisms) and are minimally processed.

Are there different blends available?

Yes, we offer two distinct blends in the Fruits & Greens® family of formulas.

Fruit-Heavy Blend:  This formula is higher in our SuperFruitox proprietary blend of organic super fruits and lower in our SuperVegetox proprietary blend of organic super vegetables. Flavors made with this blend include Berry and Strawberry Kiwi.

Vegetable Heavy Blend: This formula is higher in our SuperVegetox proprietary blend of organic super vegetables and lower in our SuperFruitox proprietary blend of organic super fruits. Flavors made with this blend include Mint, Chocolate and Espresso.

Note: The Mint flavor of Fruits and Greens® is the most “potent” of all the formulas, with almost double the amount of SuperVegetox proprietary blend of organic super vegetables and the SuperFruitox proprietary blend of organic super fruits than any other flavor.

Have any updates been made to your proprietary formulas?

Yes! We recently retooled our Fruits & Greens® product line. You will notice the color of the Berry flavor has changed from green to red, now that it is gluten free.

In addition to the color change, other update have been made to the entire Fruits & Greens® line, including:

  • Improved taste & aroma
  • Increased antioxidant support
  • Increased probiotics & fiber
  • All flavors gluten-free
  • We have doubled the vegetable powders in Mint
  • SuperFruitox proprietary blend of organic super fruits
  • SuperVegetox proprietary blend of organic super vegetables

What is the activity or count of dairy-free probiotic mixture in Fruits & Greens®?

At the time of manufacturing, the total count of dairy-free probiotic mixture is 14 Billion. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Lactobacilllus Acidophilus    7.0 Billion
  • Bifido Bacterium Longum    3 Billion
  • Lactobacillius Casei             2.0 Billion
  • Lactobacillus Rhamnosus    2.0 Billion

The reason that “contains milk” is (or was), on the Fruits & Greens® label is because the added probiotics were cultured on a dairy (milk) base. While milk was never added to our current or previous Fruits & Greens® formulas, they did include “milk-cultured probiotics.”

Beginning with our next batch of Fruits & Greens®, the label will no longer include “contains milk,” as we have sourced a non-dairy probiotic formula to be added. Therefore, milk / dairy will no longer be an issue, and all of our formulas will be 100% dairy and gluten free!

The Fruits & Greens® label claims it has 20+ servings of fruits and vegetables. What does this mean?

Because our Fruits & Greens® label says antioxidant power of 20+ servings of fruits and vegetables, it should be noted that to say a product has the antioxidant power of 20, 40 or 60 servings of fruits and vegetables is somewhat arbitrary because it depends upon which specific fruits and vegetables you are comparing to. To say antioxidant power of 20 servings of oranges would be a more specific claim.

Fruits & Greens® has always tested to have a higher antioxidant level than any other greens product on the marketplace. We decided to have our current labels state “antioxidant power of 20 servings of fruits and vegetables” because we feel it is the most accurate number to use if we are trying to compare to the exact fruits and vegetables that are in the product.

In milligrams, how much potassium, magnesium, quercetin, turmeric, grape seed, and milk thistle can be found per serving in the Fruits & Greens® formula?

According to our manufacturer, very minimal levels of potassium and magnesium are found in Fruits & Greens, though they have not tested for it. Additionally, there are almost 200 mg of quercetin and less than 100 mg each for turmeric, grape seed and milk thistle per serving.

Is Fruits & Greens® free of gluten, soy, nuts and casein/dairy?

The simple answer is yes, Fruits & Greens® are gluten, dairy, nut and soy free.

Recently updated FDA labeling regulations require that any known potential allergen(s), such as dairy, soy wheat / gluten, etc., be listed on the label if any part of the formula has ever been in contact with the allergen(s).

Technically, however, all the Fruits & Greens formulations are allergen-free for dairy (milk), soy, gluten (wheat) and nuts. The only soy in our formulas is the non-GMO soy lecithin, which is derived from non-GMO soy, which is a purified / extracted end-product (lecithin) that contains no allergenic carry over and is considered “hypo-allergenic.”

Non-GMO soy lecithin has always been an ingredient in the mint, chocolate and espresso flavors of Fruits & Greens®. Due to compliance with the new FDA labeling regulations, we are now required to list soy on the label.

It should be noted that with the exception of “extreme” soy allergy / sensitivity,  neither soy oil nor soy lecithin are generally considered allergenic, as the extraction process removes the “allergenic factors.” course, if you are anaphylactic or otherwise of severe allergy to soy, we advise that you use the greens powder with caution or avoidance.

Is it safe to consume Fruits & Greens® during pregnancy?

Yes, Fruits & Greens® can be safely consumed throughout the entire pregnancy.

NOTE: There are no restrictions on the amount of vegetables and fruit intake that is allowed during pregnancy (other than fruit juice restriction if there are blood sugar concerns).

What is the vitamin and mineral content of Fruits & Greens®?

Since the Fruits & Greens® formulas are just that—fruits and greens—they are taken primarily as a source of phytonutrients. Although there would be very minimal amounts of vitamin and mineral content found in our formulas, we have not evaluated them for the exact amounts.

Also, since our formulas are produced with clean, organic fruits and vegetables, the exact vitamin and mineral content will vary based on when and where the plants were grown and the weather conditions during the growing season.

What is the Oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) value per serving?

The ORAC value per serving is approximately 9,000 per serving.

Is it safe to consume Fruits & Greens® while on blood thinning medication?

On average, there is approximately 25-30 mcg of vitamin K per 1 scoop serving of Fruits & Greens® (based on the average amount vitamin K content in dried herbs and vegetables).

According to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, although vitamin K does work against warfarin type blood thinning medications, it’s an important part of a healthy diet and actually helps keep the blood thinning medication (warfarin) levels balanced. When taking blood thinning medication (warfarin), you can consume as many vitamin K-rich foods as you like; just be sure to adjust your dose in accordance with your diet.

To better understand the effects, you can download this guide to Warfarin (Coumadin®) and Your Diet from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.

NOTE: Always consult your physician or healthcare professional before consuming any product that may affect any medication or drug you are taking.

Are there any adverse reactions listed for the primary “super-fruit extracts” found in Fruits & Greens®?

According to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, for the most part, adverse reactions have not been reported for the primary super-fruits used in our formulas. These include mangosteen, acai berry, goji berry, pomegranate, and noni.

Only one case has been reported regarding mangosteen, in which the patient consumed a “relatively high chronic intake” of the super-fruit juice for a period of 12 months. Additionally, several isolated cases were reported for noni, though the intake volume was unknown.
